The Most Common Mistakes in Eyelash Lifting

When performing an eyelash lift—also known as a lash lift—there are a few things you absolutely must keep in mind to achieve a good result. Today, we’ll explain the most common mistakes made in practice and how you can avoid them.

The lash lifting adhesive doesn’t hold

When it comes to lash lifting adhesive—just like any other product used in the salon—quality is the first thing to consider. If the quality isn’t right, the results won’t be satisfactory either. However, poor cleaning can also cause the adhesive to fail to hold properly. This happens when oil-based products are used, which compromise the adhesive’s durability. After cleansing, using a primer or cleanser ensures that the oil film is removed, which also allows the lashes to adhere to the silicone pad.
Unlike eyelash extensions, a lash lift does not require high humidity. High humidity would prevent the lash lift adhesive from drying completely, causing individual lashes to come loose even during the treatment.
Likewise, the lifting adhesive must not be past its expiration date; the best-by date should be checked before every treatment. The same applies to storage: The lash lifting adhesive must be stored in a cool place, otherwise its consistency will change.

Do Not Use Too Much Lash Lifting Adhesive

To achieve optimal lash lifting results, never use too much lifting adhesive, as this will seal the lashes. Specifically, this means that the lotions applied afterward will not be able to penetrate the hair shaft.

Use the right silicone pads
First, the silicone pads must always be thoroughly cleaned; this is a basic requirement for hygiene, but also for adhesion. Second, the correct size of the silicone pads is crucial. They must cover the entire width of the eyelid so that all lashes can be shaped uniformly. To ensure a beautiful curl, the curve of the silicone pad must match the length of the eyelashes.

Maintain Parallel Alignment

To achieve this, during a lash lift, the eyelashes must be shaped one by one and arranged in their proper positions. If, for example, the eyelashes are placed on top of one another, they will retain this chaotic shape. The result will not meet a client’s expectations of a professional salon. Therefore, it is important to always work carefully to avoid making such mistakes under any circumstances.

Strictly Adhere to Processing Times

Different products require different processing times. If you don’t always work with the same brands, you should therefore ensure before the treatment that the processing times specified on the product are followed. Your experience as a stylist will then tell you whether you can reduce the processing time slightly depending on the density and thickness of the eyelashes. But be careful—this deviation shouldn’t be too great. Otherwise, the lashes may end up looking scorched or frizzy. This can happen if the lashes are chemically burned. It’s especially advisable to proceed with extra caution when working with fine lashes.

Take Notes During the Lash Lift

Since every client has different eyelashes, we recommend that you, as a stylist, take notes during the lash lift. How much lotion was applied? How long were the processing times? What does the lash growth look like? Which products were recommended for at-home care? Have there been any changes in the client’s medication regimen? All these points help ensure the best possible result for a regular client.
