Three Signs of a Poor Eyelash Extension

If your eyes burn, itch, or the eyelash extensions just don’t look the way you agreed upon, one thing is certain: this eyelash studio was a bust. But it’s not always obvious to the customer that something went wrong. To protect your eyes and your health, we’ve compiled three signs today that aren’t immediately visible to a layperson but indicate subpar service.

1. Eye pain:
   Let’s start with the most obvious one: eye pain. This can occur when the eyelash extensions prick or sting your eye as you blink. And that’s definitely not how it’s supposed to be—eyelash extensions should blend seamlessly with your natural lashes and not feel like foreign objects. At the first sign of discomfort or pain in the eye, you should leave that eyelash studio and find one that performs the treatment professionally. Because if your eye feels prickly or stings, the distance between the eyelash extensions and the eyelid was likely not maintained properly. This kind of thing doesn’t happen to an experienced eyelash stylist. She knows and masters her craft. Ideally, you should address this directly and let the stylist know that the extensions feel anything but comfortable. In any case, the client should know that this isn’t normal and is a sign that the salon isn’t very good.
2. Eyelash extensions can’t be combed
   Anyone who’s ever had lash extensions done by a professional knows how satisfying it can be to comb through them with a lash brush. You can immediately see and feel how long and full your lashes are, and you know: a great job was done here! However, the situation is different if you can’t get the eyelash brush through at all. In that case, the eyelash extensions are either stuck together, or the brush gets caught on adhesive residue. This isn’t just unpleasant—it’s also a bit gross—because the work was clearly not done properly; it can even be dangerous if the eyelash extensions—for whatever reason—are stuck together. The moment proper cleaning of the eyelashes is no longer possible, the client risks inflammation caused by contamination. In addition, clumped-together eyelash extensions can pull out young natural lashes that are still growing. In the worst case, this can also result in unsightly gaps in the lash line that take quite a while to close up again. If you notice this sign, it’s best to visit a reputable eyelash studio and have the failed eyelash extensions professionally removed as a precaution. A well-trained eyelash stylist will assess the situation and advise you on how to proceed.
   
3. The eyelash extensions hold stronger than Superman and Lois Lane
   What might initially sound like a dream come true for many clients is, in reality, a botched job caused by using too much adhesive during the eyelash extension process. And in fact, you’ll be able to recognize and see that very adhesive. This isn’t just unsightly—it also poses risks to your eyes and eyelashes. As we know, glued-together lashes cannot be cleaned properly (see above), which can lead to infections and inflammation. Furthermore, your natural lashes could suffer significant damage, meaning that after the extensions are removed or fall out, hardly any natural lashes will regrow.
